I had to take it in but it turned out to be a broken or worn out wire in one of the field coils..he rewound em and soldered em back together for $29.00...plus tax.

Cheap lesson learned, I hope!!! And ..... cheap fix too!! I'm glad you took it in.

You did good, I've had mine rebuilt twice and he usually charges between 40 and 60 dollars. I dread the day this guy retires, he is good. Like radiator repair folks, there just ain't many left.

Hey neighbor....there is also a machine shop here that I used for my rebuild..crank $50..head $35..block decked for $60..he also installed my .090 sleeves for free prior to decking.I think its called American Machine or something Ill see if I can find the reciept if you are interested. Are you the Dan that worked out of your father in laws garage and did such a great job on yer 8n and posted all those great pics yesterday I think? By the way the guy at the machine shop is also a auto repair teacher at some college around here.
