Point setting. Front mount
Would a bigger or smaller gap give me a hotter spark ?

Correct setting is the best way to go, under gap will eventually give starting problems, adjust for the correct gap and timing and you will get good results. Over gap and it may run erratic.

You'd have better luck increasing the spark plug gap just a bit.

Well now according to my brother-in-law that use to work for the Ford dealership back in the '50s, if you was going to try varing off the .015 point setting it was better at .014 than at .016 when he use to put them on the Sun machine and set them by dwell as was really recomended. He messed around with this to find out when he had to got to the farms on trouble calls. But who has a Sun machine anymore that mounts a front mount distritor? The Sun also mounted the double sided front mounts used on the V8 engines.

Changeing the point gap will not help your spark any plus it will throw it out of time just a little bit. Plus it will not run as well either
