Took advantage of the beautiful weather up here in N Ca and went for a motorbike ride with my buddies out to the wine country of Fairplay - E16 - a very nice ride and made even more interesting by coming across a 8N (which did not look like it was running) as well as some other old tractors - it was a perfect day up here and the wineries are making good wine with the excellent crop they had this year.

Well kinda looks like 8N colors and 2N/9N tractor with maybe an 8N hood and grill. But then maybe I missed something - usually do! - Jack

Looks like maybe a 2N painted 8N colors, like mine is, but not a 8N hood. It is not a 8N tractor from the looks of the pedal arrangement.

Ross,

Air intake on the side looks like a 8N. The 9N/2N did not have this kind of air intake.

Danny,he said it looked like a 8N hood. That hood does NOT appear to have scripted Ford logo on it at the top of the dog leg, does it? I have a 8N and a 2N and they both have that kind of air intake. What kind did the 2N have if not like that one?

Ross

I believe the 9Ns and 2Ns had no air vent on the hood. A dealer option was to cut a hole in the top of the hood and run a vertical pipe straight up with a cleaner on top. Here is a picture of a 41 9N from the Tractor Photos that has no holes.

Here is a picture GT in MT's 44 2N with the dealer opyional through the hood air stack.

I think the vent on the side was not on the 9/2Ns, only 8Ns.

Not all 2N's and 9N's had vertical breather pipes, they were options.

One more picture. Here is picture of a 49 8N that has the side vent and no Ford script.

I'm not sure when the script was added to the 8N hood.

Danny in CO, The picture you posted is the 1949 8N I bought a little over a month ago. It does have the raised FORD stamped in the hood above the lights. It had been painted with a pine top making them hard to see. No FORD on the fenders though. What year were they stamped there? David.

I dont know anywhere near as much as you folk regarding these tractors but it sure looked like the same hood I have on my 8N - it had the lift up battery access cover with the same latch - I would be happy to take another ride out there on another day and take some more pictures for you!!!! Then I can give my wife a good excuse for taking the motorbike out for an afternoon ride and not raking leaves and cleaning out the gutters!!!

Does your 8N hood have the Ford name in script above the doglegs. It should be embossed in the metal of the hood if it is a 8N hood.
