Hello, I just bought my first Ford 9N. Its been updated with a 8N side distributor "industrial" motor. My question is with the draught mode. My 9n will stop lowering the control arms when I stop moving the height control arm I any position. I was under the impression that the 9N's were either in the up position or the down "draught" position. Do I have 8N hydralics?? I was thinking that maybe they updated them during the engine swap. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark

You -CAN- get the 9n 3pt lift to 'look' like position controll hyds as long as there is nothing working ont he toplink linkage. To mow with a 9n, a set of check chains will work nicely.

It doesnt have a Zane Thang installed, I actually purchased a Zane Thang and was wondering if I was going to need it. The previous owner (a farmer that seemed to really know tractors) used this tractor to brush hog. This is what confused me. Anyone that can explain the hydralics of the 9N verus the 8N please help me out!!

Mark..... ..would it surprize you to learn that 8N sidemount engines eazily bolt to the 3-speed 9N/@N tranny, and is a common engine swap? It is "faster" than waiting 4-weeks to rebuild the original engine. Plus you gitt 26-hp of the sidemount 8N engine versa 23-hp of the original frontmount 9N engine.

NO, most likely you do NOT have 8N hydraulics. tip: 8N hydraulics have a little 3-in "flush" handle under yer right kneesies. This is a selector for either position (brush-hoggin') control in the "UP" position...or...horizontal for draught (plowin') control. Checker out..... ....Dell

Hello Dell, Thanks for the response. Well I dont have the little lever under my right knee. Only the trans. dipstick. What confused me was the previous owner (a local farmer) used this tractor to brush hog. (so he claimed) Is it possible to brush hog, etc. with this tractor. Or would I have been better off with an 8N? OR would I be OK with the Zane Thang? Thanks!!

What makes you think you cannot bushhog with a 9-2-N ? Depending on your mower or the use of "stay chains" your tractor will "Get-r-done".

Open the inspection plate and see if it has yoke (2 pronged thing that goes down to the control valves)(I think).

Or I guess you could do it the easy way, and look for the draft/position control lever under the seat.

Or I may be off my rocker...
