My proofmeter is about a year old. The other day when I cranked the 8N, the proofmeter pegged out. The rpm was normal, and the tractor ran as usual. Anyone have any ideas what might cause this? Is is time to order a new proofmeter?
Thanks, Alan

Alan..... ....you do realize that yer proofmeter is "air-coupled" don't you?

That means 2-spinning magnetic discs separated by air-gap. They should NOT TOUCH. (ever) Sometimes the proofmeter drive cable is TOO LONG and will FORCE the spinning disc into the other, causing it to "peg". When it does that, it mucks-up the spinning disc bearing/collar.

Me? I'd runn-itt until it quits fer good. It won't hurt 'nuttin' to peg. ('cept yer mind) And be prepared to replace yer now kapute proofmeter with new ($40, cheap) and NEW drive cable sometime in the future.

It took me 10-yrs to gitt 'round-tuitt to replace my proofmeter and make a sheetmetal heat-shield to protect my cable drive from HOT EXAUST pipe ..... ...Dell

Appreciate the info Dell. I didn't realize it is "air coupled". I'll let it ride like it is till spring and then order a new proofmeter. About the only time I use it is when I adjust the carb...
