I am restoring a 2N. Really would like to be able to read serial #, but I cant seem to get it. It looks like it begins with 292***. Casting on starter housing is D177. From what Ive read that translates to April 17 1947. Does anyone know if that would correspond to the 292*** Serial # range? Thanks to all on this forum. I have learned so much by reading posts. Hopefully I will be able to help someone as much as this forum has helped me.

Paul,

9N292xxx would be a 47 2n. As Dan noted, you can look at casting dates to narrow it down more. You have the block casting, not look on the axle trumpets for a date. On my 48 8N looking from the side, the date is in about the 7 or 8 o'clock position.

I can tell you this; my 2N is # 280*** with a Feb. 23, 1947 block casting date and the rear axle date stamp is 3/6/47
