I agree, I think the color looked so cool on them I didn't paint them. I just sprayed them with gloss clear and put them on.

Morning Dell;
I guess it amazed me, because I didn't know what they were made of third party image, and the fact that there was about 3 coats of white house paint/primer on them, when I took them off my 2N.!!third party image

Colin....yes, they used the "wings" under the headlites on the Ns until 1950 or so. If you look closely at the embossed ribs running along the lower edge of your N's hood, they also form long wings that meet in the front at the badge.

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the explanation.

This is what I have on my '49. We're talking about the same thing, right?

Like Bill already noted, your sockets are the later style. Previous owner may have replaced the originals on yours, they tended to develop stress fractures.

Colin: I have those brackets on my "50 and have the "wings" on my "48. Not sure when the change occurred, but yours are the later style.

Gary..... ...why doe that surprize you? Wings are made from cast pot-metal (lead & zink) and will dull with normal oxidization in a short time..... ...Dell
