Ricko..... ....you write..... ."what is it and can it be fixed (JB weld or real weld??)"..... ..that "diamond plate" is for fuelpump applications. Yer N-tractor does NOT have a fuelpump, its carburetor is GRAVITY fed. Isn't that amazing???

The N-Engine was also sold and used for industrial purposes such as irrigation pumps, hay bailers, wheat threshers, corn pickers, electric light generators, railroad car refrigeration, some 1940 delivery vans and pickups, and even early WW2 Jeeps used the N-Engine. Isn't that interesting??? And how do you suppose they got fuel to the carburators? Engine block mounted fuel pumps??? Wow, watta concept. And did you know enny of those afore mentioned engines will fit yer N-Tractor???

And fer future reference, it takes SPECIAL techniques to WELD CAST-IRON engine block. But surprizingly enuff, JB-Weld works quite well with cast-iron repair. (just follow directions) Simple, eh?..... ..respectfully, Dell

I'm pretty sure I saw a picture of a tractor on this site with the bolted block-off plate over that fuel pump boss. Anyone one else know that picture/owner.

Thats were a mechanical fuel pump would run on a industrial/power engine. Fer as i know a N has the casting for it but never machined out to run the a pump. Its possible you have a block off plate over the hole and all you need is to reseal it. Does it have a cover and 2 bolts are just a flat boss. all it would do is leak oil if cracked their so what ever it takes to stop a oil leak, no water in that area.
