"If it weren't for bad luck I'd have not luck at all, gloom despair and agony on me OOOOO OHHHHH ...."

Well I bolted the carb on today and went to turn the key and...

Nothin, it wouldn't crank. Battery was deader than a door nail. Lights was off, key switch off... what killed it? I don't know. I looked for a short but everything looked A OK. So I ran an extension cord out to the barn and put the charger on it. So we will try again tomorrow...

Great advice soundguy, I do have it on the charger with the battery cables off... I had forgotten about using the test light in that manner...

Time was just not on my side today and the rest of the week is just as bad... Thursday I'll sleep in the morning, then meet with the cub scouts who are participating in the veterans day program Friday at the school,
Friday is the Veterans Day Program then meet the Boy Scouts for our monthly camp out (Highs of 45 degrees should make it fun) Won't be back until Sunday afternoon so I'm probably looking at Monday before I can tinker again.

Disconnect battery cables and then charge it up.. look for a spark when you reconnect cables. if you get one, pull one cable back off and hook a test lamp inbetweent he battery cable and post.. it should glow.. even if dimly... Now.. starting at your alt or gen.. start removing 1 wire at a time 9 mark it ).. and see what wire makes the lamp go out. move to other circuits as you finish one with no result.. IE.. charge, ignition, lamps, starter.. etc.

As GB says and or your alternator maybe going bad and drawing power from the battery when its not running and that will cause you that problem

James;

Bad battery!!?? Have it checked out. Might be a cell or cells gone dead/dry!!?? Especially if while loading the hogs, you were turning the engine off and on frequently, and the battery did not get enough time to charge!!??

Once you get it running, immediately check the amp guage for charging. The alt. may have gone bad, or shorted out during the rain you were workin' in.

Just things to check!!!!

James

Check and see if the generator is smoking hot. Possible the cut out relay stuck closed.
