The small town of 2100 population middle school my grand daughter attends put on an excellent Veterans Day program today. The kids sang patriotic songs and each of our nations wars history textbook version was recited by groups of each class. The walls of the auditorium were covered with handmade artwork depicting scenes the kids imagined from the different wars. The quality and content of the program represented a lot of work from the students and faculty. The keynote speaker was a VietNam war infantry veteran who is now a newspaper editor. He made a moving and positive talk without ever saying "I".He in conjunction with the historical society are publishing hardbound books of personal histories of veterans from that county in their respective wars. The WWII edition is just out,he presented the school library with a copy as well as one for each of the two WWII veterans that were present among the fifty or so veterans being honored. That little town has so much of what they need and so little of what they don't,I'm thankful that my grandkids live there.

I live not too far from Hamilton, Ontario Canada where they have one of the last remaining airworthy Lancasters in the world. They rolled her out for Remebrance Day yesterday and flew her over the city.

Looked up to see that big lonely girl banking slowly across the sky, big motors rumbling deep enough to feel in your gut, a concrete reminder to us all of the thousands who died in them making sure we'd live on in freedom.

Felt a little self conscious standing in the middle of a community centre parking lot looking up with tear rolling down my cheek, telling this old airplane and crew thanks - but stood there anyway til she was out of sight. Very moving.

God bless our troops past and present. I want to say thanks to all that have severed. We would not be the nation that we are if wasn't for our Vet's. Again a big thanks for all you have given and done.

I went to our little celebration today at the local Court house. It was small, cold( like it was in Germany), and well recieved. Not too many 30 or so, a small prayer, flowers, speech, another prayer, and then the Legion and VFW vets " Saluted the Veterans". A little Star Spangled Banner, and it was over. It was not a big thing, However it was a heartfelt, and honest " Thank You" to the people that brought us the rights we still have.

I also Thank all who have served. Joe US Army 66-68

I send my sincere thanks to all of you Veterans.

Though I was never myself in the military, my Mother was.

A WWII veteran, she was a nurse in McArthur's army in the South Pacific, and met my Father in Leyte Gulf in January 1945.

She still has her Army dress uniform, and still supports the American Legion and VFW though no longer able to attend events.

She'll be 92 this Thursday.

Thanks, again to all of you.

Dean

Happy Veteran's Day to all. Last year I was in Home Depot and there was a hand lettered sign "Discount for Veterans" at check-out. That I appreciated. Steve, Vietnam (196 LIGHT INFANTRY BRIGADE) US ARMY, Retired
