Well guys,I put in clean oil in the 8N,but I still didn't get any response from the hyd pump.Where should I start? Should I pull the pump? 3 point will not lift at all. There is no pump noise to show she is even trying.Any thoughts?

Is the PTO shaft turning looking at it from the rear of the tractor?

If so take the inspection plate off.

You might find, and see a lot of interesting things to look at and report on from in there.

Does the lift lever move the lnkage back and forth?

Do you see oil running out from above anywhere?

Dunk,I have put this Ford to bed, guess I was wanting to get ideas from all of you,so I could research.I wont dig back on this one till next year.Still would like all your ideas.

To answer your question Dunk, yes the pto turn fine and runs the mower. No the lift linkage does not move when you move the lift lever. No oil running out.

To give you all some background on this tractor,I bought it knowing there wasnt much oil in the trans,at least none showing on the stick. It turned out to be about 3 gal of water/oil mix. They told me it hadnt worked(3 point)for a while.
Any good information is much appreciated.

You just answered your own question.

Witht he inspection cover off, if you lift the 3pt handle, and it does not move the linkage to move the control valve onthe pump.. that's your problem. Manually move the valve back and forth to free it up.

Also.. as long as there is oil in it.. you can test it EASILLY without ever starting the tractor.

Disengage pto lever. lift 3pt handle all the way up, grab the pto stub and start turning it with your hand... if the pump is working and the valve is moving ( the one you free'd up ).. then the lift arms will come up.).

Every 8-9-2 N I stop to look at i always check the hyds this way.. takes 1 minute and you know if the lift works or not. All the pump wants is the pto to turn.. don't care if it is the engine doing it.. or your hand...

If it has been sitting a while with lots of water in there, may be stuck/rusted valves - worth a try to manually move the linkage and see what happens. If it's been sitting for a while in the north country, maybe frozen and busted pump - hope not.

With the inspection plate off, take a screwdriver and move the linkage.

To the front, and to the back, I can't remember which way does what...

Zane will know.

See if that makes the lift work, may just be stuck control valve.
