What is the best way to replace the pin that keeps the lever from rotating (1940 9N)?
Sorta fun tryin' ta find the gears (takes 2 hands!!)

The notch appears ta be a bit worn as well.

Thx Guys, yer a wealth of knowledge.

What worked for me was to just remove the lever and place it in a vise. Next I would heat AROUND the pin. Generally at that point use a good pair of vise-grips or channel lock pliars to pull the old pin from the lever. Lastly, drop the new pin & let it cool.

You have to remove the entire shifter cover to remove this shifter and get that pin out. The previous owner did drill a hole in the shifter collar on the opposite side so they could pound out this pin and replace it without removing the cover - your call. However; if you want to fix the worn area on your shifter collar anyway - bite the bullet and pull the cover.

As Dunk showed you, it is a fixable issue. The biggest challenge is finding a company that welds aluminum (like custom ladder racks and such). Luckily - I live in a big city and the variety is a bit better. Those guys were good and welded mine up in less than 5 minutes - it was the best $25 I have spent in a long time. I can send you the CAD drawings with the proper dimensions to cut the new slot if you do get it welded up.

Good luck,
Dan
