Sometimes one forgets the good things in life - whenever I feel I am being hard done by - I go outside and look at things like this - then think of all those folk living in some crowded city somewhere who dont get to see things like this every day:

This is a view down the valley - our property goes down to the fence in the distance - used the brush hog to cut down the grass and weeds here and it looks good. What could I grow here?

Glad that you are back safe and sound....I lived for many years in the ME as a kid - and enjoyed it and my parents had many Arab friends - I later lived in Cairo for 3 1/2 years whilst working at the British Embassy and that was a great experience - never really had any problems with the people then (mind you this was when Sadat was President followed by Mubarak when he was assassinated) - not sure I would feel so comfortable out there today which is a real shame.

Great philosophy and great spot to live. I recently spent 12 months in Iraq so I can tell you nobody appreciates the way of life possible in this country more than my family.

wise words indeed - thanks for that insight....can you imagine what a kid would think of a working tractor from the 1940s!!! Mind you, I cant imagine what technology will bring us 20 years from now - or how much college will be costing us!!!third party image

I am 48 heading quickly to 49 - my oldest daughter is 11/12 - either I am going to have to live a very long time or my daughter is going to get preggers at 16 for that to happen...which I hope not!!!!third party image

I personally feel that age is not that much of a factor in bringing up kids and sometimes being a bit older gives you a different perspective on things which I hope I have passed on to my kids.

When I was your age, I felt much the same way you do. When I was a kid I never expected to live even that long, and it seemed that I was reaching the end of the road.

Now, I just turned 70. Doing fine, thank you. I have 2 daughters and 6 grandkids, from ages 17 down to 2.

Here's what I have seen - Grandkids are SO much more fun than kids! I know, the old jokes about how you can give them back when you're through with them. Ha. Ha.

Here's the real reason.

You get to WATCH them grow and develop. You really never get a chance to do that very much with kids. Something about being too close to the forest to see the trees, I guess.

Furthermore, when your kids have kids, you suddenly morph from being a no-nothing old coot who 'doesn't understand' to being pretty cool and smart. That's almost more fun than the grandkids - at least until the grandkids get old enough to communicate with you.

And if you're as lucky as I am, you'll get at least one grandson who will be fascinated by all your toys, and appreciate them as much as you do.

Best of luck!!

P. S. When I was your age this seemed like pie-in-the-sky too. Don't sweat it.

It looks ideal for growing children and/or grandchildren.

And be thankful for a healthy family, not having to go and fight in a war, and not starving.

Here is a picture of my lad with his favourite chicken - a Barred rock I think if you can see it - that house up there is our closest neighbour!

Have a great weekend and be thankful for all good things.
