Good morning everyone;

I've noticed periodical references posted, for help on sticking valves.

This info., posted here, will not be found, in the FO-4 manual, as I made this up myself, and after trying it out twice, (worked good for me) so I thought I would post the info. for anyone, having the same problem I had, when I first bought my 2N.

As always, read this info. and decide for your self, if you want to use this info. This is not a "Permanet" fix for valves, and is only meant to help out.!! BTW: I am in no way, a tractor mechanic, I just don't have the $$$$, to give away, to someone who is. Try it, and I hope this helps.

Dan;
Where else can ya get a valve job for under $13.00!!!???

Glad it worked out for you.! I figure you will get another yr. or so before,you have to do a valve job now. Maybe even longer, and you can always try the cheep way, again later on!

In a few days you will notice a lot more power, as the "N" is being used!!!

Good job.

Gary

Hey guys, Despite my smart arse reply earlier today to this post, I followed the process this afternoon after taking a compression test a few days ago that told me the rings were OK, but the valves were an “issue”. Here is the difference in the compression test before and after. You can’t imagine the difference in power!

Cyl. Before After

1 85 85

2 50 80

3 78 90

4 70 85

It only took about 2-3 hours (5 Bud Lites), a set of manifold gaskets and 1 can of PB Blaster. Total cost: $11.95, results: priceless.

Peter; Thanks for the reply.
I like to use a toothbrush. They always last a lot longer that buying those cheep little cleaner brushes, for parts. I just bought a set of those when I was redoing my paint job on the 2N. A set of four brushes lasted about 4 days. The toothbrush I used for the valves, I've had in the shop for over a year, and it is still good to go.

Feedback & expansion on step by step valve cleaning:

Add a step # 6 as follows;

6.) Replace the toothbrush in the wife's toothbrush holder.

If you like to use toothbrushes for cleaning like I do, this may help:

I have found that Walgreen's sells a toothbrush called a Dobson that is ideal.

The Dobson has a larger handle, and a huge bristle area, and nice stiff bristles.

It costs about the same as a regular toothbrush.

In normal tooth-brushing use, it outlasts a normal brush about 2 times, and still has lots of parts-cleaning life left in it.

Just thought you'd like to know.
