Have 3 wire 6 volt generator that was hooked up backwards, meaning it was hooked negative ground instead of positive. All hooked up right now, but now will not charge. How do I tickle the genny ?? Thanks

You should have polarized it BEFORE starting the engine, once the polarity "issue" was corrected.

Since it didn't attempt to charge, you MAY have already "let the smoke out" of the regulator and/or the generator (or some other component in the charging system... a wire, or the ammeter, for example).

Now to answer what you asked... Momentarily jumper between the "A" (ARM) terminal and the "BATT" terminal at the voltage regulator.

(Or, simply jumper momentarily between the UNGROUNDED side of the battery and the "A" (ARM) terminal on the generator.)

CAUTION... don't make the last jumper wire connection at the battery, and cause a spark THERE, POSSIBLY leading to a battery EXPLOSION!

GOO LUCK, I hope it DOES work when polarized!

If it DOES NOT, to rule out wiring or voltage regulator problems, "full-field" the generator by GROUNDING the "F" (FIELD) terminal at the generator to a good chassis ground.

(ASSUMING this is an "A-circuit" system such as an 8N Ford.)

On what model of tractor? Polarization is different depending on the type of generator, A circuit or B circuit. If it is an N with an A circuit, type # 23, below, will tell you how. On a B circuit, normally on NAA's, it's BAT to FLD.
