Cleaned and overhauled the Carburetor, cleaned the bowl & replaced the screen. Have good fuel flow. Tested for continuity with a light tester for AC-DC-very bright glow at the NEW ignition switch, but very dim glow at the coil. Can the ignition resistor be bad, or bad, old wiring?? Aprears I have very weak spark at the coil.

Thanks all for the comments! I do have a good test meter that I can use to measure voltage at the coil. Will also try the spark plug test. I will also purchase a new wire harness on Mon.
Right, not a mechanic or know anything about resistors. I can follow suggestions and direction, and I appreciate all the help--I need it!!

Testing that way tell you very little. You need to test for a good spark at the plugs. That light will be brite at the switch but dim at the coil for a couple reasons. At the switch you get full battery volt but at the coil you get a lot less and if the points are closed you get even less so as I said tells you very little. Take a known good plug and open the gap up to around 3/16 of an inch and see if you get a good spark when you turn the engine over. If not then you need to check your points etc.

Phil..... ...you write..... .."Aprears I have very weak spark at the coil"..... .very good observation.

You write..... .."Can the ignition resistor be bad, or bad, old wiring??"..... ..yes and no

Since you don't understand resistors, it must be bad, eh?..... .the "infamous ballast resistor" is like a litebulb, it either works (gitts HOT) or it is burned out. wadda revelation. You gotts weak sparkies don'cha? Iff'n resistor was burned out, guess what??? NO SPARKIES.....It ain't burned out!

Yer test continuity lite is semi-helpful. Why only semi-helpful?, 'cuz it won't tell you iff'n you have enuff volts (about 3-volts needed) at the coil top terminal. It will tell you yer circuit is continuous, just not where yer loosin' yer volts.

Me? I'd start wigglin' wires and wire connections and watchin' the testlite. (iff'n it blinks or changes, guess what?? BAD connection) Maybe even take a pair of pliers and "squash" the wire connectors..... ..Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister
