no spark on my 8n 6v

i lost my spark on my 8n its still 6 volt and the coils sits on top of the cam. i put in new points and condencer new coil plugs and wires nad cap + rotor button. and i put in a new ballist resistor but i got the ballist resistor from a auto parts
he says it the samething the chrysler uses. and if i jump a wire across the ballist resistor than i have spark.

Rosco..... ...congratulations, you have just found out that ballast resistors are NOT all equal; and also demonstrated that parts sellers don't know diddly squat about ballast resistors.

Yes, you do NEED the "infamous ballast resistor" to keep from MELTING yer 6-volt squarecan ignition coil guttz mounted ontop yer 4-nipple frontmount distributor. Bottom line, use a real N-Tractor ballast resistor, otherwize you'll be buying a new sparkie coil too..... ..respectfully, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

A Chrysler (NAPA ICR13) resistor is 1.8 ohms which is on the high side compared to the A8NN12250 resistor which ranges from a little under 0.5 ohm cold to a little over 1 1/4 ohm hot. This means you coil current is low and yields weaker spark. You need resistance that will yield between 3 and 4 amps coil current. You didn't specify which 8N, so I have answered assuming the front mount distributor which used the A8NN12250 resistor referenced above.
