I just installed a brand new ring gear on my flywheel (after heating it to 650 degrees) and it's loose (yes, it has completely cooled)! The old one was quite snug but this one slips pretty easily when pushed-it's probably .001-.002 too big, what do I do now?

I had a local "machine shop" try to install a new ring gear on my flywheel. They beat it up so bad trying to heat and cool and reheat that there was no way it was ever going to become snug, and I was going to have to buy another one. I took it to a tractor dealer down the road and was planning on forking out the money for a new ring gear. Instead they were able to "tack weld" the ring gear on for me and save me a few dollars. So far it's working good, hopefully it will stay that way. They said they've welded them many times without any problems. Whenever you have to replace the ring gear again you just have to break the weld. However hopefully you won't have to replace it again for a long time!

Yep I second that. Either get another one and do it again or weld it. Take it to a welding shop or do it yourself by making three or four quick low heat thin one inch welds. Just space your welds out evenly and it should last another lifetime.

I have welded them before & got many years service that way.
