I was at a local John Deere dealer earlier today and not the prices of a 9n and an 8n. The 9n was $2500 and the 8n was $3550. Had an 851 in better condition than the 8 and it was priced at $3300. Both were in questionable condition with rough bodys and layered rust/patina. The 8n ran. I could see where the exhaust had been leaking recently. The 9n was either sealed up better or was not running.

I suspected the latest hot rod craze would reach the tractor market eventually.

Okay, now for my question. There was a dearborn plow there that had the bottoms turned opposite. Was this for trenching? Potatoes? One of the moldboards was broken but it was still marked at $300 bucks.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Aaron

It did have a rather elaborate system that I did not understand. Perhaps that was it.

Maybe I oughta pick up and N before the prices get outta sight. Might be the next big thing.

My local Case/IH dealer has a nicely restored NAA for $3900 and a restored 600 for $4500.

I wonder if you were looking at one of the rare "two-way" plows. They had a right moldboard and t left moldboard so you could turn around at the end of a pass/row and plow on the way back. There was an elaborate system to raise the unused moldboard and lower the one to be used. That would explain the high price.

They would be handy if you had to plow a field that had a slope all the same way cross the whole field. Then you could turn the soil from the furrow up hill on the first pass across, as Dell said, and make a second furrow on the way back still throwing the soil from the furrow up hill.

Aaron..... ..generally, then rotating moldboard plow is fer "contour" plowing. This done so the "slice" of soil it rolled UPHILL to reduce erosion when plowing both directions across a hillside. Why? Well you don't plow hills uppsie-downsie 'cuz yer plow furrows will turn into erosion makin' gullies. NOT GOOD

Standard flatland moldboard plowing is usually done in "circles"; going roundy-round the field edge to the center lands..... .Dell
