I thought I had a 9N but a lot of things like the bars aren't the I beam design they are the oval tubular design I also noticed recently that the front hubs have 44 embossed in them.

I didn't get a lot of action from my other thread so Ill ask in this one if someone wouldnt mind an attempt at this.

I have my axle off the tractor and have removed the lock bolt and soaked the pin in penetrating oil and it will not come out.

I have used a AIR HAMMER and a 5-6 pound sledge with the correct mandrel to make good contact with the end of the pin.

Should I be able to get the pin out with a hammer and driving mandrel ?

The lock plate has already been busted off and it still wont give.

what can I do beyond using the hydraulic press ?

I dont want to break the cast iron housing.

Maybe cut the pin with a sawzall ?

Is it hard steel ?

Does anyone have TOH's contact info I would like to order a Pin an bushing set.

Amazing what you find when you dig in. Im warming mine now for a oil change. Got a friction disk in the mail today. I discoved mine didnt have one. Previous Owner bent touch lever so it was rubbing. Wore a grove in the touch lever.. Lift stayed put.

Front axle cleaned up and ready for phosphoric acid and painting:

Finished front axle support:

I have been removing the radius rod and drag links on one side this morning. I pulled the steering arm off, removed the spindle, removed the spindle bushings from the housing, removed the bearings and cups from the front hub. My spindles are worn badly, the inner cup was spinning inside the hub, and my spindle thrust bearing das the original 9N part number and the scripted Ford on it. Plum wore out - everything!

'bout to go out and tear apart the other spindle and wheel.

I am pulling my '39 front axle apart as I write this. Your pivot pin bushing is shot - and I will bet your axle bore is worn down a bit where the pin wore into it (mine is). There are no spacers on the 9N axles.

HTH,
Dan

Can't be sure, but it looks like the big spacer which is on the pin. The "crack"is there so it can move, I think. I don't think there is any way the pin can come out unless you remove the bolt holding it in.
