Does a model 70 john deere have two different speeds like 550 and 1000? Just had new pto clutches and disc plates installed in my tractor by a j d dealer. When I started to use it with a brush hog it started to slip in real heavy grass and doesnt seem to be turning fast enough. If you can change speeds how do you do it?

Over here, most of our motors go put-put-put-put, NOT put-put-notta-notta-notta-put-put.

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Come on now, fingers....stop that!

The JD forum is your best bet for answers...

But...STOP running it! Get your PTO clutches adjusted before you burn them up. There's not alot of material there, and it doesn't take long to ruin them. It is slipping, causing your low RPM.

No, you can't change speeds...

There WERE kits for 1000RPM (which are almost NEVER seen), but it is a complete swap, you would only have 1000RPM, and no switching back and forth unless you swapped alot of parts.

JD 70's had only 540 RPM PTO unless you had some modification I haven't heard of before.

Rodney; You might want to try posting your ???'s, on the John Deere forum. You will get faster and more informed Info. there.
Go to the "jump to" box at the bottom of this page, then sellect John Deere. That will put ya on the right net, for this kind of info.
