Never was an N series tractor made in 1937. 9Ns where made from 1939 to 1942, 2N from 1942-1947 and the 8N from 1948-1952. So theres no way that you have a 1937 8N because they didn't make them then.

8N's were made from 1948 to 1952, so there is no 1937 8N. A 1947 N would be a 9N. Regardless, none of the N's had a hydraulic filter from the factory. Some after-market loader attachments could be equipped w/ an external filter. All N's, however, had an engine oil filter.

A 1947 N would be a 2N, not a 9N.

You need to look at the serial number on the block just below the head and just behind the oil filter canister.

The 9N's and 2N's will start the serial number with 9N....
The 8N's will start with 8N....

8N's from number 8N1 to 8N37907 are 1947 year models which started selling in July 1947

Hers a link to John Smiths site to help you identify your tractor .
