does any of the so called deer repellent spray or other stuff actually stop deer from munching on roses or other plants or is fencing the only solution?
Thanks,

Lee

I found the front bumper of a freightliner repells them real good. Repelled one 8 point buck into the ditch a couple weeks ago. lmao

Nothing you will spray or use as a scent repellent will work 100% of the time. I speak from personal experience. Stuff I thought worked for years will not work if the 'normal' food supply at that time of year is not available to Bambi. Hair, urine, commercial products (Irish Spring soap, pepper wax, Organite sludge, etc)do not work all of the time. Physical barriers work. Bow hunters & shotguns work. Dogs work. I took 10 foot sections of old field fence, bent it like a teepee, & put it over the strawberries. That worked. I laid some of the old field fence flat on the ground beside the bean rows; deer won't walk on it. Bottom line, if they are just passing through & grazing, the sprays, hair, etc, appear to work. When they are hungry, all that stuff is to them is seasoning. Commercial farmers around here use an electric fence baited w/ peanut butter. Bambi sticks his nose in the peanut butter & gets zapped. They say it works.

Ok,

Well, just spent the weekend taking down the stuff my father in law put up some years ago which consisted of every scrap of left over fencing he could find, lot of that black bird netting (which did a good job trapping any number of poor birds), held up by lodge pole pine wood sticks (which subsequently bent and looked horrible) - it just looked ugly - cleared all that stuff out but roese seem to be popular with deer so need to protect them - Ill give the spray a go - I was told a while back to put human hair into a sock and hang it out there....

My wife uses a spray called "shotgun" from TSC. Need to spray kind of often. We see deer almost every day, fun to watch, however they LOVE hosta and daylillies. Also shrubs, I think they can tell which ones cost the most..

I have tried serveral things, but the pepper wax and or a dog is probably best. I also got a permit from DNR and killed 5 last summer.

I am looking for a smart young dog now, I never had the problem untill my dog died but I can't find one i really want. I am not interested in a puppy because until they age some they tear up more then the deer.

I used a hot peper spray for my sweet corn. Worked fine one taste and they didn't come back.

Stick up a broom handle or limb with cheapest, stinkingest perfume on a scrap of cloth. Several located around the area affected.

My dog does a good job keeping the critters out of the yard. She's a good friend too.

I am fortunate enough to have an acre of land just past our flowers and garden. I have 1/4 acre of clover in the fall/winter and 1/4 acre of field peas spring/summer. They rarely hit garden and have never gotten into flowers. I make sure clover is up before taking down peas, and vice-versa. (They did get into garden peas 2 years ago)
