Just ordered a Liberty wood chipper for my 8N-question--is it best to use the over riding coupling I use on my Brush Hog--or not?-PeP

I do not use an orc on mine. Like Soundguy said, tractor is stationary, in neutral, so it will not drive your rear axle like a bush hog will. I use a short 1-1/8 x 1-3/8 spine adapter. The chipper has so much inertia that it is nice to idle back the engine and slow the chipper down. Philip.

Thanks--I also have a 2 foot diameter flat belt driven 3 point hitch Buzz Saw--and that keeps you on your toes as well! Either one of these devices loves to grab things. The items with lots of inertia like the brush hog and the large industrial leaf blower I have were not much fun until I got the over riding coupling-PeP

Unless you are planning to be driving along while chipping.. I don't see how an ORC is gonna help you at all.. AFAIK.. chipping is done as a stationary task.. stationary tasks don't require an ORC.

Do however use some sort of driveline protection.. either propepr grade shear bolt.. or slip clutch.. whatever the manufacturer reccomends.. etc.

Thanks--my thought was the same--to switch from the overriding coupling--and replace with the solid 1.125 to 1.375 tractor output shaft.--PeP

Yep.. or at least use a solid pto stub extender to make up the difference.. but notthe thin sheetmetal sleaves... they deform like crazy under load..

Yea--I have a couple of the good solid stub extenders and that's what I'll use. Also--the Chipper Video on this is--http://www.kpxtractors.com/chipper-setup.htm--PeP

Don't know that I"d be interested in what you do with your Hog... but I can certainly imagine an over-riding coupling!

As soon as the words:

"Auto Feed" and "Input Chute" came out I was rolling on the floor.

Seriously at 814 pounds she (the chipper) might be a bit to heavy for a worn hydraulic system.

Just recieved the chipper--I suppose without the metal crating and heavy wooden packaging--it's quite a few pounds lighter and between the sprung and unsprung weight along with my "excellent" hydraulic system-it had no problem picking it up and driving it in and out of tight wooded areas! I didn't weigh it but it's similar to a 500 lb lift-it's closer to the tractor than two big guys standing on my rear blade hanging on for dear life if I pick them up "too High"!--PeP-NE Ohio
