my tractor is an 8n and where i put my right foot down gets hot enough it was making the rubber on my shoes smell as if it was melting. is there a cover that goes between it and the muffler or what might be the problem. thanks in advance

A piece of aluminum can reflect and dissapate a lot of heat.

Look towards the end of the "Restoring" section on the link below and you will see a good shot of the original asbestos lining Ford put there for just that reason.

There should be an asbestos pad on the bottom of the floor board to take care of that. I suspect yours is missing.

Lee MO, My 8N bottom of right running board bracket has tiny bits of asbestos still remaining. (I don't know if I'm the environmental polluter or the previous owner was.) Asbestos is hard to get today; I wouldn't want to use it anyway. Would a small sheet of fiberglass or something similar make a good sustitute pad? Anybody can chime in. Thanks. Angelo
