Check these out. How do people bend these things? Still in pretty good shape. They didnt fall off or anything...But how and why do they get bent? Farmers way of adjusting them third party image Still need to replace the small one I am going to have to pull the battery to get to it...

Got some new ones from Dennis Carpenter man they are hard to get on but the quality is good!! Need to do some welding on the throttle lever this weekend to build up the wore spot and file it back to round...

Yes they are off my 41...When do you have to adjust them? When they are wore slap out? Seems to work about the same with the new ones...Old ones are easy to remove...Well broken in....Some day I need to read that book cover to cover...

If'N you would be content with your OIL PRESSURE gauge read'Ns, simply use the vice grips on the oil line to the pressure gauge. Makes for a great week-end. Reduces worrying about the oil pump and "main bearings". John,PA

My 9N had a "vice grip" application. The oil pressure gauge is within factory spec's.
I had noth'N to do with it. My daddy showed me.

John, you just might be a tad confused on something here.

All a pair of vice grips would do on the line to the oil pressure gauge could do is dampen the needle fluctuations, or to put a stop to the oil pressure all together, or hold it high even when the engine was cut off.

Now on a governed diesel, a pair of vice grips on the return line, could give you some extra HP.

I don'tknow..... should I or shouldn't I take our those ole vice grip impressions, or, leve theve them alone? I was only about 5 yrs. old.

The ole girl,my 9N, that is, is safely tucked in the shed, outta the winter COLD, snow, and utter elements.

You are exactly right, though. Howevers, the memories of the early days make it REAL, even today. It seems more important, now that we preserve those early thoughts.

Therefore, I submit this apologu..f'N YOU were not there at the time, YOU are at the loss.

Dunk..... .fer about the next 3weeks, I am just a lonely old bachelor. Absolutely of NO VALUE, money wise. All that I have of value is the old 9N and a newely restored JD316 and a friend.

So, why not give the last of this year's income to the local PBS station. After all, they must live too!

I use the tee-shirt eventually to polish my tractors. In the mean time, I always get a size extra-large. Makes for a night shirt for a certain "CELTIC GIRL".

Yep, I think they are bent with pliers to adjust them.

If you want them straight, all you need is a good flat faced hammer, and an anvil.

Are those for a 9N/2N tractor? If so - that is how the manual tells you to adjust the governor linkage - by bending it.

Dan, In the book they say bend them to adjust em? That sounds crazy but I guess so. We used to bend our bicycle spokes to tighten them and it worked fine back then. I figure if a fellow wants to really have adjustment and keep em straight, just cut about a half inch outta the rod. Then find some stiff rubber hose or somethin and put over the rod and have hose clamps to tighten and loosen for adjustments. It'd be a little pertier than bent up rods ta look at. What you think about that idea?

Yep - that is a better idea - but quicker and easier to bend - that must be why it is printed in the manual that way.

I&T FO-4 shop manual Page 42 under section 57.Adjustment:

"...On 9N abd 2N models, hold the throttle shaft lever (A-Fig F057) and bend the linkage until speed is correct..."

See - the 9N/2N linkage did not have the screw in/out tips on the end to adjust the length of the governor rod like the 8N tractors do.
