Hypothetical Brake Problem

Lets just pretend that someone has a 51 8n and is plowing the first snow of the season. Both brakes work well, but the pedals are a bit out of alignment. Now the person sets the right parking brake (cause it's easier to set) to change the angle of the blade, gets back on the tractor and takes off, forgetting to release the parking brake (which this hypothetical idiot has done in the past with no damage - it just dragged a little before he stopped and unset it) A snapping clanky sound is heard from the brake area, and the right brake pedal falls down and becomes all loosey-goosey. The right brake is now completely ineffective, with only minor resistance felt at the bottom of the pedal just as it comes in contact with the running board.
Remember - this is just a hypothetical scenario - what kind of damage could I...er....this fictional person have done? third party image

It wasn't me...honest....I'm just asking for.....a friend....yeah.....a friend.....

Dean - LMAO

Both of you - thanks for the info. I figured it was something like that. Just came back in from pretending to check it out - turns out the mythical brake drum is seized onto the imaginary brake assembly. With a very real, very large snow stom starting right now, the hypothetical inspection and repair will have to wait. My "friend" did not want to risk breaking something else while trying to remove the drum, so he put it back together.
By the way - whether real or not, loaded tires are HEAVY and putting them back on a tractor by yourself, without the aid of any lifting devices. front end loaders, circus midgets, etc , is a very interesting experience. Everyone should try it at least once.third party image

Joe:

Your hypothetical friend should pull his imaginery brake drum and inspect. It is likely that the virtual brake lining has come loose from one or both of the brake shoes that might have been inside the imaginery brake drum. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Hi,sounds like the weld may have broken loose on plate 8n2212B.Thats the plate that holds the brake shoes from going too far when the brakes are applied. This plate has a pin welded to it and that is where the end of the shoes rest on the opposite side from the adjuster.Good luck. Mahlon
