Distributor vs magneto

I have a block from a Dearborn combine - it has a magneto. Will a side mount distributor fit in the place of the magneto?

This magneto looks like it fits right into the timing cover assembly for the side mount. Picture is poor and hard to see - sorry. This pic is in "Parts and Pieces" on the left.

Very curious.

(Don't know how to post pic directly in message)

Just saw your comment about no angle adaptor & looked thru some pics and from this one, maybe a side mnt distr would plug in where the mag is located. Can't be sure.

Did you look at the response on your request at nboard, 11/28/07/ Several pics as well. Looks to mount in place of a front mount, not side. Piece of lumber in your last post hides the mount point.

Thanks - I did look at your pics in the reply on the other board.

It has the timing cover for the angle mount distributor.

You can (barely) see the bolt that holds it in place (from rotating). Only the timing cover for the angle mount has this - from the pic anyway.

I know there are many other more serious things to change before this engine could be placed in a tractor (such as the oil pan). I hope to get a better pic next time out. The "lumber" was bolted on to the block by previous owner - or I would have removed it (no tools with me).

From this picture it looks to me that a front angle mount distributor would fit. On the other hand if your mag is connected to a angle adapter and then that adapter bolts onto to the front cover I feel you would be limited to a front mount distributor.

Is the engine in the picture from an 8N ford tractor ?

BTW you need the code to put pictures in the post.

Using photobucket.com as a picture hosting site its either the "" boxes (Bottom code) for modern view or Html code (2nd from bottom) traditional forum view.

No angle adapter. This block is salvaged from a Dearborn combine - kept inside for YEARS!

Thanks for the reply.
