I have a broken zerk grease fitting on my radius rod end. It is flush with the surface. I'm assuming that a spiral screw extractor will be the best tool for the job, but thought I'd ask before I got myself into trouble.

Thanks in advance.

It worked. Here is the #3 spiral extractor, the broken zerk, and the newly mounted replacement zerk. It wasn't much more difficult than unscrewing a wood screw from a plank. I love it when scary things turn out to be easy.

Thanks to all.

Sears or Craftsman tools sells a multi size tool that you can use in a reversible electric drill that I have had excellent success with.

This item may be prefect for removing the zerk in question. Its $8.00 plus $5.00 shipping.

Its also sold on ebay. Link

You could always go with the drive in zerk. Drill the right hole in the old zerk and drive the new on in.
Or Get a left turn drill bit.

TSC sells a multi tool.. it is a broken zerk extractor, a zerk wrench, ( 2 siges, fits 90's and 45's as well ).. and a thread chase. You can get it in standard and metric.

also.. I wasn't aware of the radious rods having any zerks.. post a pic of yours.. ( draglinks.. YES )

You talking ball end at the cap? or the pin /yoke end at the front axle?

A STRAIGHT screw extractor with 4 sharp flutes that gets pounded into place is exponentially better than the screw-in ones that continue to wedge tighter and tighter, and further wedge the part in place.

Touble is, the backside of the zerk is crimped to hold the internal spring in place, and no matter WHAT type of extractor you use, that little crimped area tends to get broken off, and left down inside the hole where the zerk goes.

That's what I use on them. Spiral screw extractor/ez-out or whatever you call it. They usually come out pretty easy. I have two I need to get out on a Jubilee I'm working on.
