I'm going to assume that you mean to say that the engine turns over (starter engages), but the engine will not start, although it has fired intermittently.

Is this a 6volt or 12volt system?

Have you checked for fuel? You can pull the drain plug in the bottom of the carb. There should be a steady stream of fuel.

Have you check for spark? Pull a plug and ground it to a clean surface. You should have a good fat blue spark.

Post back with more info, and we'll all be glad to help.

Colin, MN

Yes, Thats what it does. Has fuel and does act like it is going to stay running. Floods quick! As long as I hold the starter in it sputters but never gets to the point where it stays running. have not had a chance to pull a plug and check for spark.
I think I might need to put a new set of wires and plugs on it anyway. (couldn't hurt). Thats the only reason I didn't check it yet.

If you pulled the drain plug out of the carb and you have plenty of fuel streaming out, then I"d next check your plugs.

Check and replace 1 thing at a time. Doing a bunch of stuff at once makes problem solving impossible.

If you"ve flooded it, get yourself a new set of Autolite 437 plugs, gap them to 0.025 and install them. Check for a good fat blue spark while your at it. See if it"ll start.

Keep your old plugs, and install them one at a time in a hot engine to burn off the "deposits" left by flooding the engine.

Post back w/results or more questions.

Colin

In it won't 'turn over', no ROPS needed! Safe.

Hmm.. how is it sputtering if it won't turn over. Sputtering usually entails it rolling over and catching now and then.

What do you mean.. the starter will not spin the engine.. or that it spins it but it will not start/
