This is "Lil Buddy", a 51 8N. I have started the rebuild on it,presently working on replacing engine seals and going through the hydraulics.I am trying to keep a steady stream of parts incoming so when I have the time to work on it I will have the stuff on hand. I have read that bumper work is very hard to do and requires some specialty tools, rivet sets, torch, etc. After looking at some pictures of other 8Ns,I am not sure that this is a 8N bumper. The tongue is rounded and I think I remember seeing a bumper like this on a 600 Ford. Anybody have an ID on it. If it is not a 8N bumper, I think I will buy one for a 8N and save myself the work.

Ricky, It's a really nice looking bumper. Paint that thing and leave it on there. No one would ever notice it looks so good. Back then they threw everything on these old tractors. I'd give more than twenty bucks for it. I was just proddin ya'h.

Not one 8N tractor left the Dearborn plant with a bumper on it. So, where do you think they came from...the local Ford dealer would be your first guess, and that would be correct. Probably several manufactures were making these bumper for the dealer installed. And that is the why there are several versions on how they are made.
Your tractor bumper looks original to be, with the exception of the bottom bar, which someone added after the original one came loose.

Keep it, that is the same one I have on my Jubilee. Looks like the bottom bar has been replaced before. I am not sure where, but the bars are being reproduced. If interested email me and I will check my friend for the info.
Lots of Luck joe

Not orginial, but you still got a heck of a bumper there. It may even be a little heavier then the original. If your going to make this tractor a show tractor then maybe I'd see changing it,but if your going to work it I'd leave well enough alone.

That bumper is the one that came out in NAA era and carried over into the 100 series. Notice it is somewhat beefier than the 8N drop bumper. Got a couple of them and re shaping the bent convex bars is a real challange. Might look for another old bumper for a donor bottom bar. Real nice bumper looks good on 8N's too.

Tractor probably won"t see much work in the future apart from moving a little dirt around with a scrape blade at a baseball complex. It"s hard to explain but daddy used one for his sprayer tractor in the 60"s on the farm where we grew peanuts, cotton and tobacco.I don"t live or make my living off the farm but just having a 8N, on the "plantation"to look at is good for my mental health.

It looks good to me . I'm doing a total rebuild on a 1952 8n Funk conversion to be used as a show tractor . I call it Basket Case because that's what it was when I found it .It had an original 8n bumper which I rebuilt to look better . But someoneelse wanted it more than me & paid my price ; so Basket Case will wear a reproduction aftermarket when I'm done . As long as the bumper fits & protects the grill as its made to do is good enough for me . Just leave the bumper on , it looks good . God bless, Ken

Thanks for the offer but I do have a home for it already if I do replace it. I am not a purist, but as much as i can, I am trying to keep it as near to a 8N as possible.
