Fine tuner for limiting chains?

I use the limiting chains from this site (amazingly quick delivery and great price) and they work well, but I'd like to somehow "tune" their lengths between the links in the slots. I was thinking that a turnbuckle on each side might work. Is there a better way to do this or is this just and adjustment overkill that's not worth the trouble?

I've found that by putting a twist in the chains; it will shorten it and that will give you a sort of fine adjust. Will probably compromise strengh of chain though. Bill

Original ones had links open enough to move the clevis to another link, might try yours that way. Important to at least keep the lift arms off the tires, have seen a lot of folks where the chains were so long the arms hit the tire and the load jumps up!

I would use one turnbuckle running horizontaly twixt the two chains. Tighten it and you get some very fine adjustment. Not very pricey that way -- less then $20 -- need only one. Use some safety wire around the buckle to keep it from turning. Won't get hung up in the top link either.

Thanks GB. I was wondering if the adjustability would justify the added complexity. Your experiences were what I feared. Plain chains for me.

Bill;

Take it from me, for the advantage you will get from turnbuckles, you will spend more $$$$ and brain aches, than they would be worth. I tried that, and .... the attach. hooks kept braking, the turnbuckles always seemed to find a way to get hungup in the top link, ect.third party image

I took them off and said "to heck with them.

Good idea,..... ..NOT!!!!!

Not saying they won't work, Just saying I do not think they are worth it!!!!!
