I dont think that 8N would be working without your help and a lot of help from my Dad in the UK. Working on it brought us closer together than for a long time and he certainly knew his stuff.

Without any warning whatsoever he collapsed and died in the living room whilst watching TV with mum. (This was on the 8th) We all thought he had a heart attack as he was a very heavy smoker and drank like a fish (ex British Navy Guy) - turns out it was an abdominal aortic anyurism - nothing could be done.

Just want to pass on a word to all who still have their parents around. Particularly your Dads. I tried to call that very morning but could not find the phone number - decided to call the next day and have a chat with him - there was no next day.

I am about to fly out to his funeral. Sadly a lot of things I wanted to say to him will not be said. If you can, call your parents, tell them what you want to say - if something happens then at least you have that comfort.

Remarkably I have found that complete strangers have shown me a lot of compassion when I mention his passing - I used to be very cynical about people - now I think differently.

PS - he was only 71.

Thanks for all your advice and help with my old tractor. Have a great christmas.

Best wishes,

Lee

Sincere Condolences, Britchlee!

I lost my Dad a couple months ago and even tho' it was expected and even tho' it was his decision to stop life support.... I still think of many things I wish I'd said to him, and wish I'd asked of him. I can break and cry very easily when I'm alone and think of him and all I owe him.

I hope you and your Mum find comfort in each other and in God's blessing of you with your Dad.

You know, if the truth was actually told..

I guess the proceeds from my Dad's insurance, was how I ended up with an N tractor to start with.

I sure would love to spend a few hours catching up with him on current events...

My deepest sympathy for your loss. Be thankful that you had as many years to spend with him that you did. I lost my Father when he was 52 and I only 15. Missed learning the many wisdoms he would have shared as I matured. Lost Mom 2 years ago at the age of 90.

Rick Warren wrote that the purpose of life is to prepare us for Heaven. It seems to me that the best learn these "life lessons" quicker than others and are taken from us much too soon.

May God's grace be with you and your family.

Lee: My sincere condolences and prayers for you and your family. Please don't beat yourself up for not getting closure with your dad - I happened to be very fortunate to have spent the last days with them when my mum and dad passed away, but the timing is always up to the Lord - not us mortals. You will have another chance sometime in the (hopefully) distant future when you will be together again in heaven.

Why cant we ever muster the courage to say what we need to say to someone before we let them slip away.Sometimes i think that is the whole reason for heaven , so we can finally make things right and then are souls can enjoy peace and love.I am so lucky that at the age of 47 both my folks are still alive! That is one of the main reasons i havnt been so fast into moving into my farm. and also the reason i want to. So that we can have the joy that comes from enjoying each others company in both suroundings and letting them see what things will hopefully be like in my future . Seems a shame that when we finally start realizing how much people mean to us, they are ripped away from us by some unseen thief in the night!!my dad just thanked me for the fishing magazine subscription i get him every year at christmas. Those little things are everything. Glad you and your dad got to work on the tractor together. may the little things he said in the process come back and give you comfort and happiness in the future many times over!

A heavy smoker that drank like a fish. He enjoyed his life to the fullest and died from something else. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mum and other family members. I am sure he knows how you feel. May God give you all peace and comfort.

Lee,

My condolences at this difficult time. I lost my Dad when he was 61 and I was 35. We had a lot of unfinished "business" that I wish had been taken care of. He died in a VA hospital without any family even knowing that he was there. God, I wish things had been different!

I finally came to the conclusions that 'the best of his spirit lives on through me'. Now, all our family knows very well that some of his spirit was not what we would want for our selves and families, so I rationalize that I can pick the best of what he stood for and make that part of my personna. And thus the best of his spirit lives on through me.

I hope you can find peace in whatever thoughts you can pull out of this difficult time and situation. May his good memories be treasured and shared with your kids and family.

My Best Wishes to you!

Paul in MN

I am very sorry to hear of your loss; there is never a good time for this.

I lost my Mother this year, and know what you are going through.

Time is a great healer.

Sorry to hear of your loss, I have lost both my parents and know what you are going through.

Don't beat yourself up to bad about not saying the things we should. That is an area that most of us fall short on.Its like us with our kids most of the time I dont hear a lot from mine until they want something but I know they care. And I am sure your dad knows how you cared for him.
A friend of mine committed suicide a couple of months ago, I talked with him the nite before and even tho I knew he was a little down I had know idea it had come to that point. He had been sick for a long time and just could not deal with another hospital stay. I have been kicking myself since it happen wishing I could have done more. But bottom line is life goes on and so do we. Just try to think of the good stuff I do that a lot and can even muster a smile at times..
