If you don't have one buy a digital VOM....cheap. Find out where you are losing your voltage starting at the battery.

Best check and clean the grounds,,, both ends,,, ell best clean all the connections at the battery and were they connect. Worst case you could take the cable ends off the bat and use jumper cables direct to the starter stud and ground to the starter case to prove the bat is dead,,, theirs anutter way but I taint going their. Mite B time for a free battery check,,, hope you git a good checker

My wife has 4 part time play jobs,,, drives a school bus,,, werks 1 day a week at a independent living ,,, drives 1 day a week for DAV,,, 2 days a week at Advance Auto,,, she has been asked to test a battery,,, she knows sheet about a battery,,, she is not alone

Sounds like a problem I jsut had. I got a brand new battery and put it on my 1947 Farmall B and tried to start it, well it would not turn the engine over. I jumped it and then and only then would it start and run. I found that the new battery was a bad new battery. Took it back and had it checked and one cell was dead in it

Sounds like the starter is maybe still good. Change out the tractor.

Well, I enjoyed that Mark Peirce, what does that make me, and you?

I am feeling a bit better, but it is costing more.

Anyhow I agree with old, Bruce (VA) and souNdguy.

It ain't cher carb!!! (dose of Dell ere)

Yer dang new battery is dead, or possibly bad.

You don't have enough amps/volts/power to keep the solenoid in, much less to turn the starter a rev or 2.

Got a charger to see which it is?

A hygrometer is well worth the 3 or 4 bucks to check your battery with. Best test equipment for wet cell batteries.

I think Wally World still sells them.

New my butt, I am a worn slap out guy..

I doubt I got another year..

Both ends of me hurt for some odd reasons..

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the 3 packs of cigs that I have smoked a day for the last 30 something years, if it did it would have started sooner.

If it's not the battery, (and it sounds like it is) make sure you let us know when you post back if it is a 6v or 12v, front or side distributor.

If I had to guess from what you said.. I'd say you have a brand new discharged battery.

Age of battery has very little to do with charge state.

I can clip a lamp across a battery setting onthe shelf at TSC and kill it after hours of draining.. that battery will be brand new and dead.. see where this is going.

Clicking solenoid means that it is not getting enough power to stay engaged when the starter load hits.

Could also be bad clamps and dirty connections.. but I presume you would have used new clean clamps when yuo stuck in that new (dead ) battery. (wink)

use your vom and let us know.
