Help!
My 9N tractor starts up and idles with choke all the way out, throttle all the way up. Then when I put the choke IN the tractor kills and if I leave the choke out the tractor idles but when give full throttle it kills.
Sounds like it is choking it's self out.
I rebuilt the carburetor, new points, new rotor, new distributor cap, new plugs and wires, new fuel shut off bowl from gas tank, and IT still kills.
Could it be possible that I might need a new carburetor?
Thanks for any help!
Rick

Yea, you could have a bad carb, but it could also be a vacuum leak. First off, the choke should have a spring on it; you should not be able to pull it out & have it stay out. As to the vacuum leak, try spraying some WD-40 around the carb & manifold w/ the engine running; if it speeds up, you found the leak.

I sprayed WD-40 and found no leak...I will probably get a new carburetor. Any other suggestions let me know..... thanks for the help!

What about the 1/4 to 9/32 inch float height? Got that right?

You said you rebuilt the carb but, yes there simple but easy to miss a glogged jet some place. I would open up the carb again and soak it over night in a good carb cleaner, then use a small wires to make sure all passages are open then spray out all passages with spray carb clean and then blow them out. Its easy to miss some thing in them. Also do you have the main jet set right?? What happens if you open up the main jet a little at a time does it help?? Can you open up the main jet to the point that you can remove it and it still run. If you can remove it and it still run you missed something in the carb. Most of the time a good rebuild will do the job and a new carb is not needed
