When I tore my 8N down to replace seals, I noticed the left brake spring was badly worn. I replaced it and the hub really rubs on it. I presume it is a bad hub, axle or both. Is there any way to determine which of those might be the culprit or am I destined to replace both to rid myself of that aggravation.. Thanks in advance for your help, this is a great BBoard.. p

I had the same problem on my NAA when I put new shoes in. I must have taken it down three times and never could find anything rubbing. Then I went into the right hand side again and put an extra spring in. That helped a lot. Much later, I read the book, a little late and learned that there is a different combination of springs on the left and right hand side. Check your Ford operators manual for 8N.

Which spring? 2299? 2297? or the adjuster spring?

2297 is used on the left hand side of tractor only, according to the book. The 2299 would then be used on both sides.

When I got my 8N the brakes were installed upside down and backwards with springs and coathanger wire holding things together. You never know what to expect when you open a can of worms.
