Leaky left wheel. Now know from this Board to keep gear oil at bottom hole of inspection plate. I'm (hopefully) getting an experienced N'er to do the above--both wheels and left axleshaft (farmerized threads and nut) on my '48 8N. All appropriate literature; new parts and tools on hand; working indoors; helper for moving wheels and cleaning parts--me!; and presume no set-backs About how long should I figure time-wise? Thanks in advance and Happy New Year to all. Angelo

Just one note here.

You are talking about brake shoes, and axel shaft.

You have one more variable on the 48 8N, and that would be worn hubs.

If your hub(s) are worn out, you won't ever get it to stop leaking, unless you replace it/them.

Thanks, Dunk. Both wheels are very solid; don't get any movement at all rocking them. The leak appeared not too long after a local Ford dealership supposedly fixed the brakes. I first noticed leakage at the left axle nut and after a while that brake wasn't working. Will know more when hubs are off. Angelo

Let me know how it goes. I have a '48 with leaks and all the parts waiting for me the next time I visit the tractor.

Happy New Year

If this is your first time - probably about 2-3 hours. I can now do it in about an hour, but that is because I take my time and get the bearing preload perfect.
