I have an 8N block with no oil pan, and there's a "9N" pan on Ebay. Is the 9N pan interchangeable with the 8N, (front dist) considering it will be mounted back up to the 8N tranny? Thanks O wise gurus of the N.

The reason I ask is I have a wild hair to build a "Raggedy Ann" tractor... see I have all these leftover parts that aren't good enough to put on the resto but are really quite serviceable once you get past the warts. I have basically the entire drivetrain of an 8N - block, trans, rear end, axle trumpets, etc. I figure I'll keep collecting parts as I go and sooner or later have another complete tractor. She won't be pretty but I bet she runs all right.

Very good - thanks. I am geographically separated from my manuals so I'm deaf dumb and blind. Thank goodness for the internet.

YES, My parts book says only one oil pan from 1939 to 1952, there all the same.

Well - yes and no. Yes, they will all bolt up to any engine from 1939 to 1952 so your answer was acurate, but the early 1939 9N oil pans were designed a tad differently as far as the lines and angles in the sides of the pan. True, that does not stop you from using a early 1939 9N oil pan on a 1952 8N engine, but it was a cool discovery I made when I had to replace my 1939 9N oil pan due to cracks the previous owner made overtorquing the bolts.
