Can anybody help me out. While servicing the hydraulics, I found the differential oils and hydraulic oils were mixing due to the sleeve on the PTO shaft being loose. The sleeve rides on the seal between the centre housing and the differential keeping the oil seperated, but I can't see what initially held the sleeve onto the pto shaft. Heated and shrunk like a ring gear???

I'd repalce the seal, and at least clean the shaft and sleave and use some loctite engine sleave retainer on it if the sleave was serviceable.. or else just replace it.. etc.

The PTO shaft for the NAA and the 8N are different in that the NAA shaft has a sleeve for the internal seal to ride on. I believe the sleeve is a press fit and although I find it hard to believe it would be loose on the shaft, I would believe the seal is what is leaking. When I rebuilt my PTO shaft on my Jubilee 30 years ago, I found the seal was missing altogether. Seeing as how I use MC 134 D oil in all three compartments, I don't really see the real urgency of the seal being there, but being as I am, I installed the seal then and to this day I don't know if it is leaking or not. Just keep an eye on your oil levels and if all are full, you should be good to go.

Quite surprised myself. I took the PTO shaft out and slid the sleeve off by hand. I like the idea of using the same oil in all the compartments. The differetial oil level should be a little higher, but the crown would still grab oil, and should be ok. Thanks for the info, and any idea where I can get the seal between the centre housing and transmision??

I got the seal from my (then) Ford Tractor Dealer. Would think that any New Holland Dealer could get what you need for you. Might be able to order on line from one of the many parts places. Good luck.
