Nothing there. Stripped them bare and primed and painted...

Must be from an NAA then - as they did not need this heat shield due to the exhaust routing differently.

Is the perforation in the right side to vent the heat?

Ferguson TO-20/TO-30 running boards will fit. My 9N has a mis-matched pair just as you describe. One side is diamond plate, the other has holes. They serve the purpose and are very sturdy.

Sean - double check that right 8N running board - they mounted thin asbestos filled shields under the right side just for this.

If the 9n and 2n didnt come with running boards it seems like you could end up with a hot foot from the muffler.

Not a problem, the 9/2N's came with a metal heat shield wrapped over the muffler. The early 8N's had an insulated with asbestos on the underside of the foot rest, of course it disappeared in later years.

Morning Jim;

LOL, Do your "N"????? I still haven't finished Hermie yet. Come spring I've got to buff out the overspray on his hood. The wind came up about the time I was half done with the hood. One side is nice and shinny, the other side look like someone sprayed it with a vacume cleaner hose!!!third party image

Did you ever see the post I did just for you???? It is still on this page cause I bumped it up for ya. You got to be on the modern view to see it, unless you go back on the classic about 2 pages.

It is a snow plowing pic. you ask for!!!!! !!!!! !!!!! !!!!! !!!!! !!!!third party image

Tom;

I weigh 189 lbs, and I have used these for almost 10 mos. now. Not one single bend in them. What did your mech. do, Jump up and down on them????third party image

The ones I show here, already have reinforcement bars under them!!!!
Yours must be awful thin.

The aftermarket steps are pretty thin, and have no heat shield. My 1939 9N has a set of Ferguson step boards that are very heavy duty, and has a heat shield on the bottom right hand side where it rides over the muffler to help from getting a hot foot. I will probably sell these as I purchased a nice NOS muffler shield and want to keep my 1939 as original as possible.

Not sure really. I was planning on putting them on eBay as I really do not know what a good set of Ferguson steps go for. I saw one set awhile back ( year or so ago) go for around $75, but I do not know if this is the norm or just two guys who really needed a set battling it out(?) Seemed a bit high to me, that is why I have just been sitting on them waiting for another set to come up to watch.

I have the same ones as pictured below. They are mostly for looks. They bend under the load of a big man.My mechanic bent mine when he was getting on and off of it when he was working on it for me.If you have access to a welder they could be reinforced easily by putting a 1/2" rod or something similar underneath on each edge.

Rick;

These are pix, of the ones I have on my 2N. They are aftermarket 9N/2N, type step boards. I like them, and think they work quite well.

Another angle shot, same side.

These are easy to install on 9N/2N's. They hook over the foot pegs, in the front and bolt to the rear side of the hydrol./tranny sump.

Hey, Gary, you never told me when you were going to rebuild my N and make it look as good as Hermie.
Weather map looks like your area is in for more of that funny white stuff.

In short, neither. The 9/2N's came without them. There were and still are after market sources of boards for them. Also, 8N running boards & brackets work well with with a little alteration.
