Darn the bad luck!!! I was only going to change out the spring and plunger on my oil pressure relief valve as the readings were to high and these parts were suspect when it happened. The plug fitting was fully seated against a gasket when I removed it, and with the new parts in, hand threaded it halfway, put the wrench on it, turned it in until about an 1/8 prior to seating, and POW!!! It was getting tight but I never thought it was close to that point. It was thin piece of threads on one side that broke out. Does JB Weld or something simular have a snow balls chance in making this problem going away for a while?

Thanks for the good find on John Smith website. I sent him a e-mail this AM to order. I'll hang on to the part until next winter when I'm thinking I'll freshin up Maters engine. For the short run I'll try the Loc-Weld like Hobo has had luck with. I'll cross my fingers and slow down on the re-install and maybe it will last through this comming summer.

Use some spray carb or brake cleaner to clean the parts before you apply it to get the best adhesion you can. They also make epoxy sticks for fixing gas tanks or oil pans that will stick thru gas/oil.. etc.

having the 'real' part on your shelf will of course ensure that your epoxy fix will probably last forever!

While you can get 4 minute jb weld.. I wouldn't count on this being a jb weld fix.. I'd check the smiths site to see if he has any timing covers.
( you are in luck.. he has a used one for a front mount still )

This site sells a new timing gear cover for the side mount.. but I did not see one for the front mounts.. though you might call them to check...

Even with a repair the cover cap must go all the way up,,,, comparendo,,,, If the JB boys ever try loc-weld they would never buy JB again

I needed some loc-weld last Sunday so ran out to wally world and all thay had was JB,,,, gave it a nutter shot,,, I don't have all day to wait on it 2 set up,,,, loc-weld sets up in 5 min.

Guess I will agree with you on that even if J-B has a lot of products out. I got a big sample pack of J-B stuff from my friends up at CarQuest. Can't even try all J-B samples out but to put it bluntly from what I feel J-B is mostly for hackers!

Not gonna ga as far as 2 use the hacker werd,,, I use a spot or 2 every now and again,,, i was make'n some tools to give electric wire its vaccination,,, use a tapestry needle inserted into a r-12 service cap and loc-weld'em in,,, werks good to back probe connections.

Had a transfer case on a chebby pic up that leaked at the seam were the case comes together,,, up high above the oil level,,, loc-weld has werked and saved a case split,,, enny sealer that with stand the elements would werk.

Thanks Hobo for the tip on making a back probe tool. I am going to make a few of them up. Why didn't I think of that when I needed it.

JB Weld has a quicker version called JB Quick - it set up in 15 minutes. Not as strong in my opinion and has a slightly lower heat rating, but works real good in most applications.

I would say at least 15 - but that is only if you have to glue the crank back together! LOL

That stuff is as good as duct tape IMO.
