What Dell said.. and if you had a short before the resistors.. they wouldn't get hot... and if you had a short afterwards.. you wouldn't get voltage at the coil top.. etc.

KKK..... ...believe it or not, them resistors are supposted to gitt HOT!!! (burnie-burnie)

Enny short in yer wiring would also MELT the plastic wiring insulation.

Since you neglect to tell us whether yer ignition system is a squarecan coil frontmount or the 5-nippple sidemount with roundcan ignition coil, I'm gonna display my amazing mindreading ability and guess because you mention 2-resistors in a 12-volt conversion, you must have the weird 4-nipple frontmount.

The voltage at the top of the 1-terminal 6-volt squarecan ignition coil should read about 3-volts at cold start-up and when warmed up will drop down to about 2-1/2 volts. Ennythang less than 2-1/2 volts, yer gonnna be haffin' sparkie problems.

You do realize that depending upon the individual resistance values, the voltages across each resistor could be quite different. Its the LAW!!! Kirchhoff's Law. Its the volts at the TOP of the ignition coil that really matters..... ..Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

KKK..... ..the A8NN-12250A is a 1/2-ohm (0.5 ohm) resistor. While it is commonly sold as a 12-to-6 volt converting resistor when used with 6-volt coils, it is NOT the correct value of resistance. IMHO.

Simple circuit analysis math applied to the OEM 6-volt squarecan ignition coil (rated as 1.2-ohms) plus "infamous ballast resistor (rated 0.4-to-1.7 ohms, 1.4-ohms nominal) in series circuit results in 2.6-ohms total for 6-volts ignition circuits.

For a 12-volt circuit, you need an additional 12-to-6 volt converting resistor of 2.5-ohms, 50-watts. Which is NOT the value of the A8NN-12250A (1/2-ohm) resistor. Its the LAW, Kirchhoff's Law.

BTW..... ...NEW resistors SMOKE. (its the law)..... ...Dell, retired Electronics Engr
