RC.... The air cleaner consist of 2 parts. The canister you described should have a filter in the
outer portion (looks like a big brillo pad)and nothing in the inner portion. You should also have a resevoir on the bottom of the canister which fastens with 2 spring clips. This is where you put the oil.The resevoir(looks like a big cup when not
attached to the canister)has a full mark on the inside. The impurities are trapped in this resevoir.Don't let anyone tell you that you don't need to use this air cleaner because it is very important to the correct operation of your carburetor.
Hope this helps Mark

There should be a line on the side of the can to indicate the full point. If not then fill the inside and the outside till the oil is just under filling the inner reservoir. There are holes in the inner cup to let the oil go and come when the engine is running and when it is stoped.

Just the answer I needed!

Hi Zane,

Just had the same question myself about whether to fill both the inner and outer oil bowls on my N2 air cleaner. Thanks for clearing that up!
I'm a proud new owner of a 1946 model. Plan to use it with a five-foot King Kutter and keep five acres of pasture land trimmed. Even though I haven't turned a wrench in years, these tractors are so simple and stout. . .just a lot of fun to work on. And I've learned SO MUCH just lurking on this board. . . really appreciate the patience and clarity of folks like yourself who hang out here. Got my ORC ordered already -- thanks to Dell and this board --- and I hope to get one of your Zane things even before I get my King Kutter.

Sincerely,

Jay
