What size dirt scoop fits on a 2N?

The options are 30" and a 23" on buying new ones, at least according to the info from the only place I could find online. (I'm actually looking at a used one and I don't know what size it is yet).

RD;

Use the dirt scoop, it will make a ditch for you. The 5' blade is too wide and will not make the ditch deep enough to last any amount of time. No down pressure on the 3 point, savy???

Thanks for the help guys.

Just for my curiosity. I have a 5' rear blade also. If I cranked down one side to angle it would it work better than the dirt scoop?

The ditch has filled up with soil over time and now floods in that area, it's level ground there now, sandy soil.

Is the dirt scoop the best tool for re-making the water path.

Do I need something like a middle buster, or use my double bottom plow first to loosen the soil?

That should be easy enough job for a scoop in sandy soil. I think I would be tempted to pull it versus back and scoop..

I agree with Sean. Hook the scoop up in the forward position and drag it through the area ya want deepened. Just tighten up the top link to put the scoop in a slightly down angle to the front, and have at it. 2 to 3 passes and you will be done, in sandy soil, and the drain water will do the rest.

rd;

I think ya did the right thing, passing on the other scoop.

My thoughts on Howse vrs. King Kutter is: that I have see both, (I also own a 30" KK scoop), and I think the King Kutter is the better made, of the two.

Heavy duty type construction, and I think the K/K would last longer, with more rugged use.

This is what it looks like. I'm going to pass on it since I'd have to weld up some reverse hook up points, and I don't have a welder.

I bought mine at a local farm equipment auction. Paid $120. Is in great shape. I've used it a whole lot more than I thought I would. I leave it on the tractor most of the time.

Ended up costing me about $400 after I replaced the rear window of my F150 because I didn't tie the scoop down when I loaded it up. First red light I came to-----BAM!!!!

I bought one at TSC that had been returned because where the scarifer's attached it was bent up from the last owner hanging them up on a rock or root I guess. It's a poor design but they could be fixed pretty cheap. I didn't need them for what I was using it for anyway. Got it for $175 & it seems like new price was about twice that back then. (7 or 8 yrs ago) They're probably a lot worse than that now.

I don't remember exactly what I paid for mine from TSC last October. I know it was priced well over $300. It had been outside for a while, and had the typical rust and scratches TSC implements tend to get. I talked to their manager and told him I'd like to buy it, but had a hard time paying full price for something that was already scratched and rusted. He took 15% off, which brought the price below $300. :D

When you compare it to a wheelbarrow and shovel, its definately worth every penny!

They've gone outa sight since I bought mine. Been a few years but seems like it was way less than $200. It was the cheaper brand they sell.

Handy as a pocket on a shirt though.

I think steel is at an all time high now. New scrap yards keep popping up around here.

david; I would have to look up the reciept, but I think I paid around $200

for my King Kutter brand new. That said, I've seen them listed on ebay for up to $150, used, but then you have to pay shipping. :shock:
I, myself, would not consider a used one unless it was close, and was way cheaper than a new one.
