Put in a new gas fuel bowl, and it won't stop leaking. Do I need to put pipe tape on the threads into the gas tank?

Bits of tape can get into carberators.Tape can jam hydraulic valves.# 2 Permatex or plain gasket shellac will do fine.

Erik;

All the advice given, is great advice. That said, I have found that the major leaking place on these sediment bowl units, that are sold today is, at the bowl shut off valve. Usually the nut behind the shut off valve, which is the valve packing nut, is not seated. To seat that gland, tighten that nut. Do not reaf on it too hard, just enough to stop the leak. Then turn the shutoff valve, on and off numerous times, while adjusting the nut. That usually stops the stem/threds from leakage.

If ya have done the other suggested things, and it is still leaking, my bet it is leaking from here!!!

HTH

Gary :)

If it is leaking at the threads, a "pipe thread sealant for gas" is about the best choice. ONE brand is "Gasoila", also "Harvey's" makes a sealant for gas pipes, INCLUDING gasoline. That is the product I have been using the last few years, with GREAT success. Read the label to be sure you get the correct stuff, approved for gasoline.

If the fuel bowl gasket is leaking go into NAPA

and ask for a gasket, part number 730-9506.

Should be less than a dollar for the gasket.

If that is where is is leaking, yes.

I would have done that anyway.

If it is the bowl gasket that is leaking, well we may need to go farther.
