Water pumps make weird noises when the go??...It was getting dark last night and didnt look to close. Pretty crappy weather today. Might look at it saturday afternoon..

No wobble in the fan. The fan and genny both spin pretty freely with the belt loose....If it aint one thing it is another!! :( Water pump at TSC 60 bucks...My give it a good flush then replace the pump...Slowly but surely replacing one part at a time on the old N...

Getcha one of these bad-bays. They're even on sale at Harbor Freight for $1.99. Pretty handy sometimes.

Sean
That is exactly the noise I was hearing from my 47 2N. I poted a while back regarding (HOT GENERATOR) Feel your genny and I will bet it is very hot. By the way My problem was a bad cutout and the new one had a problem as well, but it was not hooked up bacwards. You guys sugested I use a bridge rectifier and mount it in the cutout case. This has worked very well and have had no problems since. Thanks for the tip. By the way it is going down to -30 windchill this weekend BRRRRR but i bet my N will start

Don't know if I would have sprayed WD-40 on the belt..... . may cause it to slip some if the bearing in the generator / alternator or water pump is going. The old screw driver trick up to the ear while running may help you pin point the location of the noise. Just don't get your head down too close to any moving parts while listening or you may develop some new kind of sounds you haven't heard before. LOL

Sean...have you ever rebuilt your genny or lubed the little bushing in the back cover? After reading your post I don't recall ever adding a drop of oil thru the little hatch on the back cover of my genny.

Jeff

Decide to brave the elements...only 32° right now and a bit of drizzle...Not doing when I started it up.
After it started to warm up started doing it on and off...Annoying noise and hard to pin point...

Reach in and see if the fan will wobble a little bit if it does then you have found your problem. Another way to see is fire it up and run it till it makes the noise and then loosen the fan belt and turn the generator and fan by hand and see which one makes the noise.

Last spring, my 4830 Ford diesel) water pump started squealing LOUDLY while I was spraying corn. It stopped after a while and I watched the temp. gage and it didn't overheat so I finished spraying and then tore it down. It was locked up with vanes broke off. (It didn't overheat as there was enough natural circulation and no load on the tractor) I expect a N water pump would make the same noise, but it will overheat, even at idle.
