looking at an 8N for sale. Its a side dist kinda rough but runs goos. The oil PSI shows no oil pressure but I dont know if it works ?? Question is it looks and feels like oily greasy gunk in the radiator but there is coolant in there and it is circulating not bubbling but I only ran it for 5 minutes ?? What do you think ??

What does the oil on the dipstick look like?If its milky might say its a blown head gasket.Oil in the water could be water pump lube, stop leak, oil from somebody draining the water in a oily pan, then put back in motor.Could be lots of things, but when you say no oil pressure,I kinda like to know what the oil looks like?Could be cracked block,5 minutes isnt very long to run a motor, but its a good while if it dont have oil pressure.

Hello, You know what I would do if I had to remove my head to replace the gasket? These darn things are so prone to break a head stud off or strip a thread in the block. I'd just buy one of those nut splitters and just split em all off and buy new nuts. That's if you have head studs that is. This way you can see what your dealing with on the lower end of the studs without doing the block damage first.

Just my two cents in!

Mark.

i agree with the others.

COULD be a cracked block.. might be years of a slightly leaky head gasket and lots of buildup.

Could be a old problem an dthe owner never properly flushed the radiator..e tc.

The oil prssure would bother me and i would not pay anything over salvage money for a machine with -0- oil pressure.

Could be a gauge... if you are willing to spend 9$ to find out.. buy a cheapy sunpro gauge and head over to find out..

ya I know al that but this is like putting your finger in the rad and wiping under the cap lip and pulling out black grease, not just a film on the antifreeze. Is that the worse it COULD be a bad head gasket ??

Nope the the worst but the most likely. It could also be a crack block or head but not as likely as a head gasket

As Dells and also be careful buying one with no oil pressure it could mean having to drop the oil pan and or other major engine work. Ya it could be as simple as a bad gauge or as bad as a bad oil pump or a broken oil pump pick up and both to fix means dropping the oil pan.

Osweld..... ..runs good but no oil pressure? miracles happen everyday (grin)

Did you know anti-freeze feels slippery?

Did you know anti-freeze actually has water pump lubricant built-in?

Did you know yer belchfire-V8 anti-freeze also has an oily sheen floating ontop of it too?

But yeah, some engine gaskets leak alittle of compression gasses into the radiator that look like oil but its NOT OIL. New head gasket $20 (cheap)..... ...Dell
