Just as an added thought, my comments are refering to the early style 8N steering box which is the kind represented in Dunks top drawing. If yours ain't that box, my comments my not apply.

I finally got it apart it was almost welded together under the battery support with corrosion, everything inside is perfect though. :) Yaahhh!

I really doubt you have to worry about breaking it. Where it joins beneath the bolts is where your shims are stacked so i don't think it could bond too tight. Be aware there could be 90 wt oil all the way up to the plug on the right hand side. Unbolt and pull the pitman arm shafts out of both sides and you should be able to pull the steering wheel, shaft, top housing half and all straight up. I just rebuilt my steering box so it's fresh on the mind. It's always good to mark your parts before you seperate just to keep things straight in your head when you have to put it back together. I use a whiteout stick, lasts even in the weather. BTW my box was so dry there wasn't even anything in the bottom half which has no drain. Wondered if it ever had any oil.

If you have all the bolts out, then it is just stuck. Take a rubber mallet (or block of wood and regular hammer) and tap on it a little ways up from the mounting surface.

Thank you, I have this diagram but the castings are stuck together very tight and although I have the steering wheel off and all the bolts out it doesn't want to separate.
