Well, as far as I can tell, you NEED 1 tractor for each acre of land you have . . . I've got 3 tractors (8n, Farmall H and Farmall 300) so I can still get 17 more tractors and still be within the limits!

My small collection: 1952 or 1951? 8N, 1949 8n, 1942? 2N, 1949 8n with Shermann, 1939 9N. 3 Farmall A"s, 2 Farmall Super A"s, Farmall C, Farmall Super C, Farmall Cub, International 350, International 424, 1951 Case Vai, Economy Powerking with loader, 1947? Massey Harris 30, and finally a 1947 Leader tractor. I bought my first tractor 10 months ago and have had over 30 since then. Nothing like buying 1, fixing it and selling it, and buying 2 or 3 more with that money. I love this hobby and am constantly looking in peoples back yards for my next project.

Got 3. one 8n same age as me soon to be rolling out of the dog house, just put wheels on today and timed the engine, after that a 640 needs a clutch and rear main seal, it will get a new coat to wear also. A 850 in the backyard, It will be a total rebuild from engine to rear end. It is an enjoyable thing to do.

Hi all,

From what I read here you guys are rank ameteurs compared to my dad. Here is what I can remember of my dad's current tractor collection. Allis Chalmers: A D17 Diesel, a D17 gas, a D17 propane (for parts), a D15, a G, a CA, and two Bs, (one for parts). Fords: A 4000, two 801 Diesels (for work tractors), the 961, the Ford 289-N project, a 641, a Fordson Dexta, and a slightly newer front end loader I can't remember the model of. Case: A Diesel (that I can't remember the model of) and a 450 Bulldoser. Minneapolis Moline: A model Z propane. International: A Super M, two As and two Super As. John Deere: A 720 Diesel, an A, a B, a 40 Standard, a 40 Tricycle, a couple of 420s or 430s (I can't remember which), a 4010, a 3010, a 2510 work tractor, two 2010s, an Industrial Diesel tractor with a slope mower attachment, another Industrial for parts, and a backhoe I can't remember the model of. I probably left some out but that is most of them. See what I mean?

Yep!!!

Either Tractor Rich, OR Tractor Poor, according to who is doing the lookin.

I wonder if he lists them all on his Home Owners Insurance.

Dunk,

I have no idea. But he has started to slow down on buying tractors a bit. Some he has had for many years and some he has bought in the last few years. His "pusher", a guy that buys lots of tractors for resale, has found an Allis Chalmers G for him that runs. His current one is a parts tractor he bought at auction for only $50.

On my Home Owners Insurance, with GA Farm Bureau, my tractor is automatically covered free.

I just wondered if I gave them a list of them, how would they react. (which I ony have one).

I could probably have many, but that might cut into my beer money.

I use to collect, I have 4 fords; 41-9N 56-860 59-841 and a 64-2000 that was my Dad's. The 9N is my lawn mower and the 2000 and 841 both have loaderds on them. The 860 picks up the slack bush hogging raking hay etc. John

My craziness is for unfinshed projects.

I have a JD 4200 Hydro w/FEL that I use daily on the homestead. Am rebuilding a '49 8n that was bought new by my Uncle. Having a blast with the little Ford. Once it is finished I get to move on to several old Corvettes, a 1968 Corvair powered Meyers Manx dunebuggy, and a '64 C10 pickup. Intermixed in these are ATVs, a '78 G20 Van, and a Hayabusa that need some TLC. :D

Had to make a decision between 3 Fergusons and 3 Ford N's. All 3 of the Fords ran when bought, just needed wiring and TLC to make them comfortable and reliable. Just seems people get tired of working on an old machine, paying a shop the value of the entire tractor each time it won't start, or just want "something new". Decided on keeping the N's, just like em' better--more attractive, cheaper and easier to repair, sound better, etc. I know Harry contributed a lot, but Ford made it durable and rebuildable throughout. The decision was made due to insufficient housing for all the machines, and the Fords WILL be sheltered, even if it means convincing the boss to keep one at work to clear the snow in the truck yard (free inside heated storage for the sideshaft) :-). My main problem is once the TLC is applied, I like each one , and can't decide to sell one even if it means a good profit. There is one clean N, all original at the Kubota dealer right now, and one had it's engine sold off of it at another dealer not to far from home. Feel sorry for the old machines nobody understands.....

I have the Disease pretty bad myself. I have a 1948 8N that is pretty near restored, a 1954 NAA that I got rusted all to heck that I took completely apart and refirbished, I had a 1952 8N that I used for workhorse duties at my property. And I am currently working on restoring a 1939 9N. I love to work on them as a hobby, but I also equally like to work them as they were intended. I will probably get more as I can sneak them in.

Like most boys who grew up in the 50's, my first car was a real piece of junk ( a 1947 Chevy) that I bought for $100 (the insurance cost more than that). I either learned basic mechanics or I walked. That car was followed by more used junkers; I was out of the Army & college & working before I ever owned a new car (in 1975). But, I retained an interest in the old vehicles if for no other reason than even I, with not a lot of mechanical ability, could keep them running. An A model Ford was next, then a 1960 Chevy p/u, a 1940 Chevy p/u & finally a 1965 Mustang convertible. But, I discovered a few things along the way: old cars, done right, require a lot of money & more expertise than I had. I got my first N (a 1950 frontmount) in 1999 when I moved out here in the country strictly for garden & grass cutting chores. It didn't take long for me to figure out that this was a fun piece of equipment and, compared to old cars & trucks, cheaper to maintain & (most of the time) easier to work on. I didn't miss the chance to get a good running 1951 N w/ a Freeman loader in 2002, followed by a 1950 sidemount in 2003. All 3 of these N's are working tractors, but the 1950 frontmount is in such great condition, I do plan to restore & retire it sometime this year.

Farming is probably the biggest hobby, followed by playing w/ the N's, Civil War history & some woodworking.

I wanted to go back to my youth days of riding dirt bikes.(motorcycles) Bought motorcycles for me and my son. Found a few places to ride down here in Florida but they were too crowded with other riders. (kind of scared me) Bought me some property so I can do my thing when I want. Bought a backhoe to clear the land of stupid ugly palmetto srub. Made me a nice track for my son and I to ride. Now I had to get something to maintain the track. Backhoe was not meant for this. I always thought a 8N was a cool looking tractor. After a long time of looking, (some had been restored and I would hate to use it, while others needed too much work,)finally found one for a great price. All original, runs and looks great! Got a box blade and a root/rock rake to smooth out the track and keep it nice without ruts. I'm loving the 8N. So easy to drive. Hmmm, now what other machines are in my future? Maybe another 8N as a back-up, or one for me and one for the wife. "his and hers" Rick

Bought my first tractor (a 3 cylinder 2000) eleven years ago when we move to the country. Traded that in on a Kubota. Use it to maintain the road, brush hog and lift and carry stuff with the FEL. Got nostalgic for older stuff and bought a 601 about 5 years ago. Now have that plus two 8N's a 2N and a 9N. Obviously only need one but I enjoy them all.

My dad has a funk he left here when he moved . Bought a few for parts but decided I didn't want to scrap them out like that .

The N bug bit me real bad and the infection spread , Its now incurable but can be tolerated with large doses of new parts that were not really needed .
