I have had Hagerty on my 1961 Impla for years. Without pulling my policy I think they require it to be in a locked garage on the property where you live.

I cannot get a Farm and Ranch policy on my place because I do not live there (my property is about 1 1/2 hours away from my house). I kept having problems with people breaking into my metal storage building I had build to store my 1948 8N trailer queen, my 1954 NAA Worker (Rustbucket) and all my stuff I use out there. Luckily, the punks who kept breaking in were only concerned with stuff they could pawn easily, and did not mess with my tractors (my most valuable assets there). Because it happened more than once, I started worrying they would come back with a trailer and finish the job. My homeowners would not cover them either.

My wife is in the insurance business and found a very nice insurance that covers restored antique collector cars. The group is called Hagerty Insurance and they said they would cover my tractors as well as they were restored and old enough (plus I was published in the N Newsletter). It is full coverage and includes theft and damage and I pay around $150 a year for those two tractors and my 1939 9N I am working on. I sleep much easier nowdays.

Might help others who are in the same predicament as me.

Dan

I agree with Jim. Why would I need insurance on a tractor unless I put myself in a 'liable' position? A little over a year ago I got fed up with my insurance company and started asking questions as to why my insurance was so high, and getting higher (nearly 50% increase in a couple years). Come to find out I was put on one of their 'farm/ranch' policies which insures farm employees, liability insurance etc etc. The agent would not take this coverage off, and I have no employees, and have my property posted. Talked to several different companies, and bought a straight homeowners policy which covers everything I need covered - nothing more. Previously on the farm policy they would not cover my barn and outbuilding for collapse, and this one does cheaper. Bottom line is I now cover my place, and all my vehicles for about the same I paid for my house previously. It pays to shop, but I really see no liability on my tractors since they do not leave the property, and I let no one else drive them.

Why would I need insurance on a $2000 tractor? If I drove it on the roads or at shows it may be good to have some sort of liability insurance, I suppose. I pay way too much car/truck insurance now and I have only have liability on my older farm trucks.

Just a heads up to tractor owners, I only go to 2-3 shows per year. One wanted policy # with $2,000,000 liability. Another to let my in the show , if I did not unload the the tractor from the trailer, unhitch the trailer from truck(????) or start the tractor ( I forgot the policy that day). My company and legal advise both say if the tractor is part of any accident, I am at fault(????)

Shhhhh ! Don't say that too loud or the idiots down here in Louisiana will hear. It's bad enought that we have to pay soo much now. I bought a car at a garage sale from a guy that used to live in California. He said that the prices are the same compaired to Louisiana insurance but for much better/higher coverage. For what we pay for 10/20/10 coverage, California residents get 100/300/100 coverage. So yah see why this concept of insuring tractors is soo bad for me. Louisiana is full of ripoffs because everyone is in everyone elses pocket. Not to mention the scratch my back, I'll scratch your back politics. Keep it down man!!!!!

Most homeowners policies cover them if they are "working" tractors, but do check your policy.

Yes, check your Home owners policy! Long story short...I needed 4 tires and electric parts cuz of a fire(exhaust ignited dried grass). My agent said I was SOL.
